5 Tips for a Safe Halloween Costume

Make sure your or your child's Halloween costume is not scary in a dangerous way with these tips from the San Marino Fire Department.

1. Plan costumes that are bright and reflective. Consider adding reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags for greater visibility.

2. Make sure that shoes fit well and that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping or contact with flames.

3. Secure emergency identification (name, address, phone number) discreetly within Halloween attire or on a bracelet.

4. Because masks can limit or block eyesight, consider non-toxic makeup and decorative hats as safer alternatives.

5. When shopping for costumes, wigs and accessories look for and purchase only those with a label clearly indicating that they are flame resistant.
