Man Killed Crossing Street Near San Marino
A man was hit by a car and killed around 10 p.m. Saturday night.
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car near San Marino, a California Highway Patrol officer said today.
Zhong Yi Cheng, 62, of San Gabriel, was crossing San Gabriel Boulevard just north of Sheffield Road when he was struck by a northbound Honda about 10 p.m. Saturday, according to a CHP officer who gave his name as M. Yasutake.
The driver of the Honda, Michael Munoz, 35, of San Gabriel, was not cited in the fatal accident, pending the outcome of an investigation.

At first, Munoz did not realize he had struck a person, Yasutake said.
He "exited his vehicle and saw an object in the middle of the roadway and began running towards the dark object and upon arrival determined the dark object to be a human with a severe head injury," Yasutake said.

Cheng could not be saved and died on the spot, he said.
