Schools Volunteers Honored at PTA Founder's Day

School district officials and volunteers gathered at Carver's Scrim Auditorium Tuesday night for the 82nd Annual PTA Founder's Day awards.

's Scrim Auditorium was filled with VIPs Tuesday night as the awards were handed out to surprise recipients and PTA boards for the 2012-13 year were announced.


The Hollywood Awards Night theme was complete with a red carpet, paparazzi ( Media Department students with cameras), and Wolfgang Puck catered desserts.

Founder’s Day was established in 1910 to honor Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst founding the PTA in 1897, according to the event program. San Marino’s first PTA began in the early 1930s at Huntington and schools.

The three types of awards given out Tuesday were:

Honorary Service Award: given to an individual in special recognition of outstanding service to the children and youth of San Marino over a period of many years.

Continuing Service Award: given to an individual who may or may not have previously received the Honorary Service Award and who continues to demonstrate outstanding service to young people.

Very Special Person Award: given to an individual who exhibits extraordinary service to the youth and community.

Each school's PTA and the overall PTA Council presented awards to the following volunteers:
