Original story posted at 11:45 a.m.:

At about 8:30 a.m., after reports of two suspected burglars running through , the San Marino Police Department directed Valentine and to lockdown their campuses, according to San Marino Police Chief John Schaefer, who spoke with San Marino Patch at about 10:45 a.m.

Schaefer said he believed there were two suspects, though the sent out an e-mail message this morning that mentioned a "suspicious character," possibly implying one suspect.

The suspects had allegedly just committed burglary in nearby San Gabriel and were fleeing on foot when they ran through the Valentine campus this morning.

When the suspects headed northbound to Lacy Park at about 8:50 a.m. the lockdown was lifted.

"We had an officer pick up both suspects on foot near Lacy Park and they fled on foot but we were able to take one in custody," said Schaefer. "The outstanding supect continued northbound to the residential area long the Pasadena border just north of the Huntington Library."

Police are conducting a house search for the suspect. The SMPD sent out a message through e-mail and telephone this morning notifying residents between San Marino Avenue and Rosalind Road to stay in their houses and lock their doors because police were searching for a burglary suspect in the area.

"As we speak there are actually officers from San Gabriel and San Marino along with, I believe, Pasadena's helicopter and Pasadena cops looking for this suspect," said Schaefer.

The outstanding suspect is described as a black male last seen wearing a gray shirt and jeans, according to Schaefer.

San Marino Patch will update this story as more details become available.
