Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness:

Undoubtedly, we live in times of struggle--of change. Every day the newspapers tell us of new disasters, famine, drought, political and economic unrest, inequality, and an ever-growing list that seems to be endless. But amidst all of this, it warms my heart to know that the future is in good hands. Each article I write only further encourages me and this week’s Whiz Kid, Nathan Lam, is no exception.

What makes Nathan so extraordinary is not just any one skill, but the combination of talents and strengths he incorporates into every component of his life. His determination and will to always try his best no matter how trivial or grand his task, coupled with the moral and mental endurance that he uses to overcome obstacles, only serve to compliment his approachable and friendly disposition. Nathan is fiercely independent and is always the first to show initiative. His drive to push his own limits to learn more about himself is exemplified in all the things that he has accomplished--and just at the age of 14! Just imagine his potential!

This past summer he participated with a medical team call SAPVN. The charity gives free health care to a minority country in need. The experience has made a profound impact on his perspective of life.

With a sharp intellect and an amazing personal work ethic, I know that Nathan is heading towards great things. His ability to focus on not only his work, but the reasons why he works so hard, will only advance him further.

His parents are Lee D. (USC graduate Pharmacist at Cedars Sinai Medical Center) and Cindy Lam (homemaker) and he also has a younger sister Audrey Lam, who is a 7th grader at Huntington Middle School.
