Performance to Benefit Victims of Family Violence

The Guild of the Good Shepherd Shelter for Battered Women with Children will be hosting an evening at the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena to benefit the Shelter THIS Saturday evening, June 14, and they would love it if you'd consider joining them!

Shauna dreams of becoming a writer, but has let her insecurities and obligations hold her back.  When she summons the courage to put pen to paper, her differing identities clash as they come to life in her imagination and onstage.  Adapted from Shauna Niequist’s powerful memoir, COLD TANGERINES: THE PLAY will take audience members on the journey of a young woman making peace with her life and herself.

“In the midst of a “Do More - Be More” culture, Shauna’s refreshing message of seeking beauty in the everyday and accepting that “You are Enough!” is the one that audience need to hear.  COLD TANGERINES: THE PLAY is absolutely accessible to anyone, regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey, while unapologetically sharing that, ‘where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.’” – Little Candle Productions.

The play is receiving wonderful reviews!  Here's one that appeared in Life in LA: http://lifeinla.com/entertainment/streams/theatre/128-theatre/9742/we-are-enough-every-woman%E2%80%99s-story-explored-in-cold-tangerines.html

A hosted cocktail reception will follow the performance, with a chance to socialize with other Shelter supporters and to "meet and greet" the show's cast and crew.

Good Shepherd was the first domestic violence shelter in the city of Los Angeles, it continues to be unique in that it is the only shelter that provides an on-site school for the children; an Adult Learning Center for the mothers; full therapeutic services including individual, group and family therapy; separate apartments for each family unit; legal assistance; medical screening and referrals; and relocation and aftercare support.  The average stay for each family is approximately one year.

Unique in its status of being 100% privately funded, the Shelter enjoys a solid history of welcoming with love and compassion women and their children of every race, color and creed who have been affected by family violence.
