6 Questions for a San Marino Local: Brian Spaulding
President of the San Marino Schools Foundation shares his thoughts on the city.
He may be the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Walt Disney International, but Brian Spaulding still makes time for San Marino. The busy father of two is the President of the San Marino Schools Foundation.
Spaulding, who has been involved with the foundation for over five years, is currently in his second term as president.
“I think making sure that our schools are adequately funded is a great cause,” said Spaulding. “The reality is that we don’t receive enough , so people from the community banded together 30 years ago to form the foundation.”

The San Marino resident encourages parents to support the foundation by making a $2,000 tax-deductible donation per student to make up for current lack of state funding.
“The schools produce a great product at the end of the day. The San Marino School District has been the number one unified school district in the state of California for six years now,” said Spaulding. “The product they produce is fantastic and they do it at a relatively low cost at $8,900 per student. The unfortunate thing is that the state just doesn’t provide all the funds necessary to fund at that level.”

What do you like most about San Marino?
The community is very involved in everything. The community is generous with its time and financial resources. People are involved in schools, little league, PTA and a whole long list of other organizations. I think that the level of involvement and interaction makes San Marino a great place to live.

I get to deal with a whole bunch of different people from around all over the world with different languages, different cultures and different points of view on life.
