Chief Jim Anderson didn’t start off fighting fire in the city. In 1977, he was fighting crime as a member of the San Marino Police Department.
“I came to the San Marino Police Department because getting a job in those days was very competitive and they were the first people that hired me,” the South Pasadena resident said. “I really enjoyed the city of San Marino so I stayed here.”
Three years later, Anderson began working for the city’s fire department. With more than 30 years of experience under his belt, the father of three is always thinking about .
“I think the most important thing people can do is to make sure their smoking detectors are in working order,” said Anderson. “You need to test them every six months and change the battery once a year.”

What do you like most about San Marino?
The people – both the employees I get to work with and the residents and citizens that I serve.
What is your favorite restaurant in San Marino?
You’re going to get me in trouble! I’m going to have to say that I like them all, but out of all the restaurants in San Marino, I eat the most at . I truly do like all the restaurants here.
What is your favorite place in San Marino to take a stroll or go for a run?
Everyone probably says Lacy Park, but I like to stroll up and down Huntington Drive and say hello to all the businesses.
What is a little known fact about you?
I’m a Dennis Prager fan.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Mint Chocolate Chip.
What is the best part about your job?
That I get to work with a great group of firefighters and keep the citizens of San Marino safe.
