Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 16

A movie, market & music all on the agenda for today

  1. Music Department is presenting its  concert tonight at 7 p.m. in Neher Auditorium. The selections from Sleigh Ride and The Nutcracker are sure to delight the senses and celebrate the season as the high school's Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble make their 2010 debut.

  2. The Haynes Foundation Lecture this evening at  is entitled "For Whom Bell Tolls: What Can Be Done about Local Governance in California?" It is free to attend this 7:30 p.m. lecture in Friends' Hall, which features Raphaelf J. Sonenshein, professor of political science at CalState Fullerton, discussing some of the best ideas for improving local government.

  3. College-bound students and their parents will appreciate hearing the advice of Genessy Rodas, an expert on university admissions, this evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in 's Barth Community Room. Navigating the adventure of college fairs, admission tests, applications, essays and campus visitations does not need to be overwhelming. Allow an expert to guide you.

  • The  and its programs are for everyone! Adults can attend a viewing of a classic film while eating popcorn and connecting with other adults at the monthly Adult Connection. Today's screening features the 1983 classic film A Christmas Story. Later in the day, tweens (those in grades 4-6) are invited to the library for the new Tween Scene afterschool club from 3:15-4:15 p.m. Each month will bring a new adventure. Get your tweens started today. No registration is required. 

  • In case you missed 's Scrip sales on Tuesday, you have a second chance this morning and a last chance tomorrow. Perfect stocking stuffer gift cards will be on sale again in front of the school office 8:15-9 a.m. and then again Friday morning during both Christmas programs.

  • Of course, it's also the South Pasadena Farmers Market day. Be sure to stop on by the market for fresh food and produce between 4 and 8 p.m., which gives you enough time to do some shopping before a full evening of events.
