8 Spooktacular Halloween Events

With Halloween coming up on Monday, here are several events for young and old to get your scare on!

It’s time to whip out those Reese’s cups, put on your best costume and prepare for another haunted Halloween!

But first, don't forget to enter that ends Oct. 31! Post a photo of your kid (12 and under) in a creative Halloween costume, and the grand prize winner gets a trip to meet celebrity Heidi Klum and a donation to the charity of the child's choice. Nine big winners will also get donations to the charity of their choice.

With All Hallow’s Eve coming up on Monday, here are several spook-tacular events to get your scare on!

1. Titan Fright Night
Monday, Oct. 31, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

At Titan Fright Night, you can trick-or-treat, see the art students’ creepy creativity at the Jack O' Lantern Exhibit, or perhaps take in a performance by the drama and dance departments. Fright Night concludes with a movie in Webb Theatre at 7:30pm.

 

2. San Marino Chinese Club Mid-Autumn Fesitval
Sunday, Oct. 30, 5:30 p.m.
San Gabriel Hilton
Cost: $100 per ticket

With performances, a live auction, and raffle prizes, the net proceeds  of Sunday's Mid-Autumn Festival will go to the and the city. The $100 tickets are already sold-out for this year, but it’s never too early to RSVP for 2012! Contact Mr. Paul Su at 626-319-2191 for more information.

FotoNuova, one of San Marino’s photography studios, is hosting a complete with decorating pumpkins, story time, cupcakes and even a free studio portrait for any child in a costume! Call the studio at 626-588-2445 to RSVP and reserve your pumpkin!

 

4. Old Town Haunt
Thursday (7-10 p.m.), Friday and Saturday (7 p.m.-midnight), Sunday (7-11 p.m.) and Halloween (7 p.m.-midnight). There is also a less scary version for younger kids on Oct. 29-30 12-4 p.m.

Cost: $17, Kids' Matinee $10

It wouldn’t be Halloween without getting a couple goosebumps. Visiting the Old Town Haunt is not for the faint of heart. Its haunted history has ranged from disappearing prisoners and ghosts of bank robbers to odd odors from the basement and random screams. Built in the 1880s, this building was the First National Bank of Pasadena and is now one of the oldest buildings in Old Town. For $17, you can descend into the catacombs, walk through the basement, and discover for yourself if the building is haunted or not.

There is also a less scary version for younger kids on Oct. 29-30 at 12-4 p.m. for $10. To find out if this haunted house is too scary for your kids (or you!), visit oldtownhaunt.com/rates.html. There are also a few discounted tickets left at goldstar.com.

Orange Grove Park, South Pasadena
Cost: Free

On Friday, South Pasadena is hosting its Halloween Spooktacular at Orange Grove Park. Kids and families alike can enjoy arts and crafts, inflatables, magic and a costume contest parade all for free! Food is available for purchase.

 

6. Danza Floricanto's 10th Annual Dia De Los Muertos
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m.
ARC Pasadena at 1158 East Colorado Blvd., Pasadena
Cost: $20 through Brownpapertickets

While many think of Halloween as a time for scary stories and free candy, the Hispanic community prepare for Dia de Los Muertos, Day of the Dead, when they remember lost loved ones and rejoice with food, altar offerings, and music. This year, Danza Floricanto, SoCal’s oldest professional Mexican folk dance trouple, marks its 10th Day of the Dead celebration. The dancers will perform 90 minutes of dance theatre vignettes while informing the audience of Day of the Dead traditions.

 

7. 28th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Altars and Ephemera Exhibition
Now-Nov. 5, M-W, 11-6; Th-Sat, 10-6; Sun, 12-5
The Folk Tree at 217 South Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena
Cost: Free

Still intrigued by Dia de Los Muertos? Check out The Folk Tree which specializes in Mexican folk art hosts its 28th Annual Altars and Ephemera Exhibition. Personalized altars and local artists’ works are on display. Admission is free.

 

8. Queen of the Night: A Musical Exploration
Sunday, Oct. 30, at noon, 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Pasadena Conservatory of Music
Cost: $10

Chroma, an all-female quintet, presents Queen of the Night at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. This 45-minute interactive event will expose young children to classical music with a Halloween theme. Coming in costume is encouraged!
