New Year's Eve Near You

New Year's Eve is just around the corner and there's plenty of options for day or night activities and celebration.

San Marino is known for its beauty, serenity, and safety--not for its nightlife. New Year's Eve is no exception, with nothing open past 10 p.m., if that. During the day, though, there are plenty of events for what is sure to be a rainy Friday. 

1. Enjoy breakfast at  (2649 Mission St.), open from 7 to 10:45 a.m., serving delicious petit dejeuner such as "Truffle Oil on Toasted Pumpernickel, Greens and Heirloom Tomatoes" and "Housemade Granola with Toasted Almonds and Orange Zest served with Low-Fat Yogurt and Fresh Fruit Salad." 2. You can begin the day at the , open from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. In addition to the lovely gardens, gift shop and usual Huntington fare, current exhibitions include Charles Bukowski: A Poet on the Edge and Beauty and Power: Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes. 3. At lunch or dinner, there's  (open 'til 5 p.m.) and  (open 'til 8 p.m.).  is open later than any other restaurant, leaving its doors open until 10 p.m. on the 31st.

4. For anything going on later, you're going to have to skip town, but don't worry, you won't have to go too far. In nearby South Pasadena, the Fremont Centre Theatre presents , a one-woman musical play about the life and hard times of blues legend Ethel Waters.  The New Year's Eve show begins at 8 p.m. and includes dinner and music on the patio, all for $80. ValLimar Jensen plays the role of Waters, and sings beautiful, soulful music throughout, taking audiences through the ups and downs of Waters' life. To read our story about the production, click .

5. Independent of that, you can visit Pasadena's Mi Piace Lounge (25 E Colorado Blvd.) or Lucky Baldwin's Pub (17 S. Raymond Ave). Mi Piace is open until 1:30 a.m. and will serve marvelous martinis. Lucky Baldwin's will also be open til' 1:30 a.m., is more casual and has an eclectic jukebox.
