San Marino Gets Ready for Centennial All-Community Birthday Party in April

The event is scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday April 27 at Lacy Park.

The City of San Marino is gearing up for its Centennial All-Community Birthday Party next month at Lacy Park, and there are a host of other centennial events planned.

A 7 p.m. Monday March 25, the San Marino Historical Society Centennial Speakers Series program was scheduled to feature "The Guggenheim and its Role in the Beginnings of JPL" with Nick Curry, at Crowell Public Library, 1890 Huntington Drive.

At 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday March 31, Centennial Easter Sunday Service will be offered at San Marino Community Church, 1750 Virginia Road.

Between now and May 13, the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens has a special exhibition titled "Cultivating California: The Founding Families of the San Marino Ranch."

The big centennial event, the city's All-Community Birthday Party, is scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday April 27 at Lacy Park.

"The festivities will kick off with an old-fashioned picnic followed by train rides, pony rides, a juggler, balloon artist, photo booth and much more. Kettle corn, cotton candy, barbecue and San Marino's very own Tony's Pizza will be on the menu," city officials say on a web page devoted to the Centennial.

"Join in the community fun by competing in a hula hoop contest, sack race, pie eating contest, water balloon toss and more! There will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a community photograph that day at approximately 1 p.m."

Centennial merchandise is on sale at the San Marino Chamber of Commerce Office, 1800 Huntington Drive, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Centennial merchandise is also now on sale at Crowell Public Library, 1890 Huntington Drive, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
