5 Ways to Celebrate a San Marino Holiday

Attend a concert, sing along at the library and take a class to revel in the holiday season.

Saint Albans Road is decked in lights, poinsettias circle the base of the Centennial Clock, and Starbucks is promoting its peppermint mocha—all familiar signs to the residents and guests of San Marino that the holiday season is in full swing.

You are likely shopping in search of the perfect gift, hanging lights, making appearances at a number of parties and spending time in the kitchen so as not to arrive at your host's empty-handed. Before you can even say, "Dashing through the snow," the new year will arrive, and it will all be over.

You are invited to pause amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, review the list of holiday events taking place in San Marino and consider how you might relish this time of year! Here are five ways to start:

  • Try your hand at holiday floral arranging with classes at The Huntington. Saturday, Dec. 11, children ages 7-12 can create their own whimsical designs at the  class. Adults are invited to participate in the  class and walk away, not only with an original wreath, but also with the skills to make other wreath variations.

  •  (SMCC) is hosting a number of events throughout the season.  Sunday, Dec. 12, families can create. On Friday the 17th, SMCC's Christ Chapel is open for . For traditional Christmas Eve festivities, consider attending SMCC for its  at 5 p.m.,  at 8 p.m. or the nighttime  at 11 p.m.

  • The  Children's Program on Dec. 18 is entitled  and features musician and children's entertainer Ken Frawley. Families can join in the fun for sing and play-along songs, as well as lively storytelling.

  • Enjoy the talent found at . Including the  on Dec. 10 and the  on the Dec.16, the award-winning student artists of SMHS will surely put listeners in the holiday spirit.

  • Visit a neighborhood landmark. El Molino Viejo (The Old Mill) is decorated for the holidays, so visitors can enjoy both its historic and festive ambience. Take a self-guided tour of the 1816 adobe building Tuesday-Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Of course, we also recommend taking a leisurely drive down Saint Albans Road and around the surrounding neighborhood to admire the lights and take a deep breath.
