Saturday’s Child Collecting Donated Items for Joplin Tornado Victims

Find out when, where and what you can donate locally to victims of the Joplin tornado.

Sunday’s Joplin, Missouri tornado was the deadliest in over 60 years with a current death toll of 132 people and over 900 injured, according to the Associated Press.

In response, children's boutique in San Marino is collecting new and used items from the public that will be picked up by Service International and donated to Joplin tornado victims.

“We’ve got a truck and we’re pumped,” said Saturday's Child owner Kim Shepherd, who added she has so far filled an 800 square foot room with donated items.

Those wishing to donate at Saturday’s Child must bring items in before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Shepherd said any items are welcome, but those being requested are:

  • Baby car seats
  • Baby strollers
  • Duffle bags and backpacks (people collecting items in the rubble have no place to put the items, especially if they lost their car in the tornado)
  • Work gloves (to sift through the rubble)
  • Hard hats

“My two favorite things people brought in that aren’t on the list are sleeping bags and hats,” said Shepherd, who emphasized that a hat would come in handy for those looking for items out in the sun. “Everyone has hats they don’t wear anymore.”

Due to the holiday weekend, Saturday’s Child hours over the next few days are as follows:

Friday: 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Closed Sunday and Monday

Tuesday: 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (donations must be in before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday)
