Six Questions for a San Marino Local: The Setiady Family

A local family takes on the San Marino six.

As I sit at the Sentiady’s kitchen table, I’m reminded of some of my fondest childhood memories: hamster babysitting, trick-or-treating and fencing with paper foils.

Family friends since attending Child’s Garden Pre-School together almost 20 years ago, this local family of four has lived in San Marino for nearly 15 years.

“We first moved here because we knew San Marino was a very safe place,” said family matriarch, Giovanna Setiady. “San Marino is very family-oriented. There are families we know that have lived here for a long time and grew up here.”

Now the family is back sharing one roof – well, for the summer at least. Daniel Setiady, the youngest in the family, is relaxing at home before returning to Santa Clara University for his sophomore year, while his older sister Tamara, a Boston College graduate, commutes to work downtown.

Family patriarch, Lucas Sentiady, practices dentistry in Chino and doesn’t have a problem getting to work on time.

“Chino is the opposite of traffic so it’s never been a difficult drive,” said the father of two.

While they’re all in town for the summer, the family plans to spend plenty of quality time together – including the famous Fourth of July fireworks at Lacy Park.

The local family four took time out this summer to take on the San Marino Six.
