Huntington's Japanese Garden: 'Return of an Icon' (Photos)

See what the popular Japanese Garden at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens looks like one year and $6.8 million in renovations later.

The Japanese Garden at the opens to the public Wednesday after a , Patch and other press got a tour inside on Tuesday.

"If you'd looked at this two months ago you'd be surprised we are opening now," Marge and Sherm Telleen/Marion and Earle Jorgensen Director of the Botanical Gardens Jim Folsom told Patch Tuesday.

The renovations included:

  • replacing all the grass in the garden
  • installing an irrigation system
  • re-roofing and restoring the large teahouse
  • adding a new waterfall
  • donated by Pasadena Buddhist Temple that was shipped to Japan and back for restoration

"No work is ever finished," said Folsom, however. "I don't claim any garden at the Huntington is finished."
