Huntington President Elected to Prestigious Society With Hillary Clinton, Others

Huntington President Steven S. Koblik was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences with over 200 new members that include Melinda F. Gates and Clint Eastwood, the society announced Tuesday.

San Marino’s are known far beyond the bounds of the city, and now Huntington President Steven S. Koblik is just one more reason why.  

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences elected Koblik as part of its 2012 class, which includes 220 prestigious new members, the honorary society announced Tuesday.  

“Election to the Academy is both an honor for extraordinary accomplishment and a call to serve,” said Academy President Leslie C. Berlowitz in a press release. “We look forward to drawing on the knowledge and expertise of these distinguished men and women to advance solutions to the pressing policy challenges of the day.”

The Academy, founded in 1780, is a leading center for independent policy research, according to the AAAS press release. Members contribute to Academy publications and studies of science and technology policy, energy and global security, social policy and American institutions, the humanities and culture, and education, said the AAAS. 

Other new members in Koblik’s company include actor and director Clint Eastwood, musician Sir Paul McCartney, playwright Neil Simon, Amazon founder Jeffrey Bezos, philanthropist Melinda F. Gates, and noted journalists, scientists, politicians and others.

The new class will be inducted at a ceremony on October 6, at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
