See Huntington’s Japanese Garden Before it Re-opens to Public

Members of the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens have a chance to preview the renovated Japanese Gardens later this month before they are unveiled to the public April 11.

After a year of $6.8 million in renovations, the will take place April 11, in time for the Huntington's centennial.

But for those who can’t wait that long, is holding special preview days later this month for members, the institution said in its calendar mailer.

On March 27, contributor level members and above can enjoy a Japanese Garden Preview and Celebration with self-guided tours and festivities throughout the day.

On March 28 and 29, all members can experience the garden from 9 a.m. to noon.

According to the Huntington, Japanese Garden renovations include:

  • Addition of an authentic ceremonial teahouse that was donated by the Pasadena Buddhist Temple, sent from Kyoto Japan and reassembled under the supervision of expert Kyoto craftsmen
  • A
  • Restoration of the existing Japanese House to more of its authentic 1904 character
  • Improvements to pathways
  • Repairs to the central pond system and water infrastructure

The renovations were funded largely by bequests, foundations and other donors.
