Cheveux Salon Opens its Doors in San Marino

Hair salon veteran Michael David Gallego tells Patch why he opened his own community-focused salon recently in San Marino.

on Huntington Drive may be the newest San Marino business, but owner Michael David Gallego is anything but new to the hair industry.

Gallego worked for 22 years at Alex & Friends salon in Pasadena—owned by his brother—where he managed the business and styled hair.

But when the opportunity and a good deal arose for the San Marino space once occupied by Avant Garde Salon, Gallego seized it and made it his own, while keeping the community in mind.

“I wanted people to feel at home and comfortable,” said Gallego, noting the tapestries, art, fireplace and dark wood furniture that he used in the salon to echo a home in San Marino. “I want to bring about community and family.”

Cheveux, which opened Jan. 3, focuses on hair and makeup with a philosophy of quality and understanding, Gallego said.

The salon held its ribbon cutting Thursday before hosting the monthly .
