Food Truck Ordinance on City Council Agenda Wednesday

An ordinance that would establish new guidelines for operating food trucks in the city will be considered at Wednesday's San Marino City Council meeting.

Food trucks are not currently banned in the city, and there are six that do have permits to operate in San Marino, according to the city's staff report on the ordinance.

However, current city codes do not address noise, safety, litter, insurance requirements and other rules and guidelines that are applicable to food trucks.

The new rules will cover litter clean-up, parking guidelines and more.  The ordinance changes were requested by a local mobile food vendor's association, according to the city's report.

Mobile food trucks have become increasingly common over the last few years, spreading out from the City of Los Angeles to the San Gabriel Valley and elsewhere.

Local cities have sometimes tried to ban the trucks from operating in town: the City of Monrovia passed a ban, then repealed it after a lawsuit was filed;   Arcadia had restrictions on where the trucks could operate that they eventually repealed; South Pasadena, too, repealed a ban in 2012 that was in place.

Patch asks: Do you visit food trucks?  Are you OK with them operating in San Marino?  Tell us in the comments.
