Eng Praises Obama's Pick of San Marino Local

Amidst GOP opposition, local Assemblyman Mike Eng responds to President Obama's appointment of San Marino resident John Bryson for U.S. Commerce Secretary.

Assemblymember , who represents San Marino and other San Gabriel Valley cities, responded Friday to President Obama’s appointment of San Marino resident John Bryson for Commerce Secretary.

"The San Gabriel Valley can proudly claim John E. Bryson as our native son,” Eng told Patch in an email statement. “As Chairman of Edison International, with a local base in the City of Rosemead; and a resident of San Marino; he is typical of the many success stories of prominent leaders that come from our area and we are proud that President Obama has nominated one of our own to become U.S. Commerce Secretary."

Eng’s reaction is in contrast to that of some Republicans who want Obama to advance free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea before considering a new Commerce Secretary, the Pasadena Star-News reported Tuesday.
