New Business: Goodbye Wine Bar, Hello Exercise Barre

The space in San Marino Courtyard that was once being considered for a wine tasting establishment will instead be occupied by Pop Physique exercise studio, which begins construction this week.

After a long absence, a bar is making its way to San Marino. Well, a ballet barre that is.

If you have recently seen the empty space in San Marino Courtyard next to , you may have noticed that Pop Physique exercise studio is coming soon.

Part of the trend of studios that use a ballet barre to whip clients into shape, “Pop Physique incorporates a ballet barre-inspired exercise system into an efficient one hour class set to excellent music that blends elements of ballet, Pilates and light weight work into a methodical series of strengthening, isometrics, core shaping and luxuriating stretches,” according to Pop Physique’s website.

Pop Physique, which has 11 locations and two in the works including San Marino, opened its first studio in 2008 and was created by former professional ballet dancer and Pilates instructor Jennifer Williams and her husband Deric, who is a brand developer, said the site.

Construction is set to begin on the San Marino Pop Physique space this week and the opening date will depend on how construction and city requirements for the space progress, according to Ash Pathi, who represents San Marino courtyard owner Indra Investments.
