Celebrate a Safe and Fit Summer at The Shops at Montebello

With summer vacation coming up quickly, The Shops at Montebello wants to make sure local families have a fun and safe break from school.

The Shops at Montebello is hosting its Kidgits Safe and Fit Summer event to help families learn about summer safety and staying fit on Saturday, June 21 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Center Court.

The event will teach kids about tips for neighborhood safety, summer safety and stranger awareness, with easy tips including:

  • Stay out of the street. Cars make the street a dangerous place to play.
  • Tell your parents where you are going and when you'll be back. Know your home phone number and address.
  • Ask your parents first. If someone invites you to go somewhere, offers you a gift or just wants to talk, say you need to ask your parents for permission first.
The Montebello-Commerce YMCA and City of Montebello Parks and Recreation Department will also be on hand to promote their summer programs for kids, to ensure children are entertained and active all summer long.

From 12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Kidgits stage, the Montebello-Commerce YMCA’s Aquatics Director will host a water safety presentation to give families tips on pool and beach safety. Kids can then interact with youth fitness instructors in a Latin Dance and Kids Yoga session from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

“Summer is the season for kids to enjoy being active outdoors,” said Marida Petitjean, director of marketing and business development at The Shops at Montebello. “We’re happy to help promote safe summer fun at The Shops at Montebello.”

Kidgits members will be treated to a face painter and a special Kidgits beach ball, while supplies last. A balloon artist and summer arts and crafts will be available to all families in attendance.

Bearemy from Build-A-Bear Workshop will mix and mingle with attendees.
