Nowruz [pronounced NO-ROOZ] in Persian means "New-[year]-day". It is the beginning of the year for the people of Kurdistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Albania, Georgia, Turkey, Iran and Iranian and Turkic people in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, India, Northwestern China, the Caucasus, the Crimea, and the Balkans. It begins precisely with the beginning of spring on vernal equinox, symbolizing the resurrection of life on about March 21.
We hope you will join in this ancient tradition that is recognized by the United Nations as an official holiday celebrated by some 500 million people around the world. The program promises to offer a “taste of Iranian cultures” as it will boast the food, music, art and dress of the Indo-European people.
Our Parenting Place is sponsoring the program, we are an educational program designed to help families and children in the San Gabriel Valley by offering parenting classes, teacher workshops, hands on learning for children and adults as well as cultural events. We were established in San Marino in 2010.
Our goal for sponsoring such a program is twofold: 1) To educate the community at large about this rich tradition and 2) To gather the people of Indo-European origins and their American families and friends of the San Gabriel Valley to share and unite our rich bond on this beautiful occasion.
We will have ethnic food, a Nowruz display, egg dying and other carnival games for kids, music, entertainment, sweets and many vendors will be there for your gift giving needs.
The event is free.
