Creativity—what is it? How many times were we told as children, "Everyone is CREATIVE"? ….and then many of us didn’t quite believe in this statement. Why are our children eager to create when they are young and once they pass middle school years, very few continue to pursue art?
I was lucky to meet an artist Vladimir, or Vladi Nepychnyi, who is not only talented himself, but also has a special way of working with children. He starts his class with asking his students what ideas, styles, materials they want to implement in their creations. From their ideas he creates his curriculum. Vladimir likes to say, “I am not teaching how to create, rather guide the child who needs a little bit of nudging and is hungry to learn new information or a new technique.”
