Winter Solstice or Yalda Celebration

2nd Annual Yalda or Winter Solstice Celebration

Join Our Parenting Place and the USC IGM Art Gallery on Friday, December 21st from 7 pm - 9 pm to celebrate our 2nd Annual Yalda or Yule Event also referred to as the Winter Solstice.  Yalda is a celebration of the longest night of the year and a turning point for the longer days to follow.  Yalda has been celebrated by the Persian people for thousands of years, dating back to the age of Mithraism, it symbolizes the “triumph of the Sun God over the power of darkness”.

Our Parenting Place is an educational program with arms that stretch to the child, family and teachers.  We offer parenting classes to support the conscious parent who strives for balance and gaining confidence.  The roots of the founders of the program are another facet of the diversity and rich cultures they both represent, that of their Persian and Russian heritage blended with American culture.  Through celebrating and honoring our rich cultures traditions and customs, we connect with our history, forge new relationships and bond with our destiny.

Join us for this festive occasion, learn about this age old custom, enjoy foods related to the Winter, meet new people, enjoy the works of Richard Fukuhara,  Dr. Zoltan Tokes, Beth Palmer and Pamela Schleifer Strauss and mingle.

Also, several San Marino residents and Rotarians will be honored for their collaboration with Our Parenting Place at this event, namely, our mayor, Dr. Richard Sun, Councilmember Dennis Kneier, City Manager John Schaeffer, School Board Member Chris Norgaard, Rotarian, Fred Sohl, Rotarian, Lucille Norberg, and San Gabriel Rotarian & San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Drue Lawlor.  Join us and help us celebrate with them.
