Local Rescue Cat Celebrates 21st Birthday

San Marino native Tricia Sjogren adopted her cat Olivia from the Pasadena Humane Society in 1991 and the frisky feline is still going strong.

With so many sad stories about abused or neglected animals, not to mention those tear-jerking Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercials, it’s especially a joy to hear about animals that are thriving and loved.

Tricia Sjogren, who is from San Marino and lives in South Pasadena, couldn’t help but write the Pasadena Humane Society to thank them for her rescue cat Olivia that she adopted back in 1991. The PHS shared Sjogren’s note and photos of Olivia on their facebook page Tuesday and Sjogren told Patch she was more than happy to have us share her story.

Sjogren’s note is below:

Dear Steve, PHS Employees and Volunteers,

Today marks the 21st birthday of my dear Olivia. I adopted Olivia in June of 1991 when she was 8 weeks old, and I've always celebrated her birthday on April 25th. Without you, I would not have this precious gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you ALL, for the fantastic work you do.

FYI - Olivia will only drink water out of a High Ball glass, and prefers it on the Coffee Table. When you get to be a feline at 21, you get whatever you want!

Tricia Sjogren
