The Right Prom Dress for You

Shopping for a Prom dress? Here are a few ideas...

When you think about high school, Prom is always one of the first things that come to mind. It is such a memorable high school experience, one I missed because I was too busy working on my debut collection to attend. However, I still have a Prom memory...My Fashion Merchandising class let me have a fashion show right before Prom at , showing off all the dresses I created. Since 2006 I have been designing and sewing fabulous dresses that are red carpet sensations and also Prom-worthy. One of the most important part of Prom for us ladies is picking out the perfect dress, something that makes you feel like the most stunning person in the room. I want to share with you some dress styles that are perfect for this season's Prom festivities.

  • If you want something more dramatic, go with a gown. It is very classic and you can't go wrong with a floor length dress in a bold color like red or a vibrant hue. Add a belt or some edgy accessories to make it modern. Wearing your hair down with a gown will balance out the look and tone it down a bit. Go with minimal accessories, such as a statement ring or one big bangle.
  • In honor of Prom, actress Aimee Teegarden (star of the new Disney movie 'Prom' ) is rocking this strapless black and white number! It's fun, flirty and has a great A-line shape, perfect for movement on the dance floor.
  • Play it safe with a little black dress! Pick something with some volume to add flare. You can feel free to go crazy with accessories since your dress is a blank canvas. I would add a dash of color with a bright heel or maybe some bright accessories to soften up the look.
  • What screams FUN FUN FUN more than sequins? A brown & gold sequin and silk dress is such a fun, playful option. I recommend drowning yourself in gold accessories and a little envelope-style clutch to complete the look. To show off the sassy neckline, pull your hair up or into a side ponytail; it is an elegant and simple way to style your hair and keep it out of your face while you dance the night away.

Just remember, pick something you feel comfortable in. When you are comfortable and confident you always look gorgeous! Have fun and be safe.

Yours Truly, Designer Jazmin Whitley
