The Altadena Sheriff's Station was amongst the 40 peace officers and administrators that met at the Azusa Police Department Wednesday to devise ways to better reach the public through social media.
The San Gabriel Valley Law Enforcement Social Media Group will discuss the best forms of social media, identify current trends on the World Wide Web to tailor their outreach in their communities, according to a written statement from the Azusa Police Department.
An important function of the group will be to provide help to each other through "e-Mutual Aid," by which fellow agencies can help by posting crucial information for the affected city, authorities said.
The idea was born when Azusa Police officer Mike Bires, swamped with traffic control duties during a recent Azusa brush fire, enlisted the help of Arcadia Police Sergeant Tom LeVeque to post information to Azusa Police's social media platforms informing Azusa residents of the fire, authorities said.
Also present at the Wednesday meeting along with Altadena and Azusa were, Alhambra, Arcadia, Burbank, Claremont, Covina, El Monte, Glendale, Glendora, Irwindale, La Verne, Montebello, Monterey Park, Monrovia, Pomona, San Marino, South Pasadena, West Covina, Whittier, and the LA County Sheriff stations for San Dimas and Temple City patrol areas.
