Elderly Woman Assaulted by Attempted Murderer

A parolee at large allegedly gained entry to an elderly woman's home Monday morning, beat her and threatened her with a kitchen knife. He was apprehended with the help of San Marino police about 30 minutes later after he fled on foot.

Update: The suspect, who was charged for attempted murder and burglary Monday, was identified as Alonzo Bernard Johnson of Los Angeles.

Previously: An elderly woman was assaulted in her South Pasadena home on the 1000 block of Indiana Avenue Monday morning after a parolee at large gained entry to her residence.

Around 7:40 a.m., the female victim, 80, was alone in her home when a male suspect, 51, allegedly walked in through a closed door and asked to charge his cell phone. 

When the victim told him to leave, he allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened to kill her, according to reports.

While holding the knife to her, the suspect then forced her into a rear bedroom, face down onto the bed, police reported. 

The suspect attempted to tie the victim’s hands behind her back while beating her into submission with his hands and fists; this is when he was interrupted by family members, and he fled the residence on foot, police said. 

With the help of the Pasadena, Los Angeles, Monterey Park, and San Marino Police Departments, the suspect was apprehend in the 5100 block of Huntington Drive in the city of Los Angeles, about 30 minutes later without incident. 

The suspect is a parolee at large and has a significant violent criminal past. He is currently being booked at the Los Angeles County Jail on multiple charges which include attempted murder and burglary, according to police. 

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
