Former San Marino High School Coach Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement
Mike Mooney returned $20,000 to the San Marino Unified School District after pleading guilty to grand theft embezzlement Tuesday.
In a , former football coach and assistant principal Mike Mooney pleaded guilty today to felony grand theft embezzlement.
Mooney returned $20,000 to the and waived his right to a jury trial during the hearing before judge Maral Injejikian at Los Angeles Superior Court downtown.
from October 2008 to 0ctober 2010. The investigation that led to the charges began after a clerical worker noticed a questionable request Mooney had submitted for reimbursement, Superintendent .

In addition to repaying the funds, Mooney must complete 20 days of community service. He has begun doing this at Union Station Homeless Services in Pasadena. He also must pay $490 in fees and fines.
Mooney is scheduled to appear again in court on June 13 to show he has met the terms of his probation. If all conditions of his probation are met at that time, the charges will be reduced to a misdemeanor, the probation will be terminated and the case will be dismissed. His probation will be unsupervised.

If Mooney fails to meet the terms of his probation, he faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, depending on the extent to which he violates his probation.
