More Deaths, Fewer Drunk Drivers Memorial Day Weekend

California Highway Patrol reported 258 arrests for drunken driving over Memorial Day weekend. That's 40 less than last year. Eight traffic-related deaths occurred.

The California Highway Patrol Monday reported eight traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during Memorial Day weekend. That's three more than last year.

During the 78-hour period, there were 282 drunk driving arrests, down from 323 last year.

Statewide, the agency logged 25 traffic deaths, up from 22 last year. Drunken driving arrests totaled 1,305, down from 1,367 last year.
