Police Face Grenade Scare in Home

After seeing what appeared to be grenades, San Marino Police called the Los Angeles County bomb squad Thursday but eventually canceled the call.

San Marino Police found what appeared to be hand grenades in a San Marino home Thursday, according to the Pasadena Sun.

After a gardener called police around 2:30 p.m. to report a broken window in the home at the 1200 block of Mesa Road, police found the home had been burglarized and found grenades on a bed in the master bedroom.

Police called the Los Angeles County bomb squad but cancelled the call when they discovered the grenades were hollow and harmless, said San Marino Police Sergeant Robert Cervantes, as reported in the Sun.

The La Mesa Road homeowners are at least the second this summer to fall victim to some sort of home loss while on vacation.

Patch reported in July that a home on Bradbury Road caught fire after a neighbor heard an explosion while the residents were out of town. The fire destroyed the roof and a majority of the home’s interior and took the life of a pet rabbit.
