SMFD Responds to South Pas Fire, Julia Roberts Wedding Dress Destroyed

There were no reported injuries and the fire lasted approximately 45 minutes.

The Mission Street , who has created clothes for icons such as Oprah Winfrey, Elton John and Diana Ross, caught on fire Friday—destroying everything inside.

"Everything was damaged [with] either fire or smoke damage," said Battalion Chief Philip Guiral. "We have to contact the owner to find out exactly what was inside and the value."

A wedding dress that was designed for Julia Roberts (but never made it to the altar, according to this article) was among items destroyed, said a relative who was on the scene Friday morning.

Initial investigations point to an electrical fire, added Guiral.

South Pasadena Fire Department responded to several calls of smoke in the area of 525 Mission Street around 9:30 a.m. Guiral said firefighters could see "big black header" from two blocks away.
