Chau Praises Governor's Budget

Assemblyman Ed Chau calls Gov. Jerry Brown's budget "responsible" and "a good starting point."

Gov. Jerry Brown this week proposed a $97.6 billion budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year that erases the state's deficit and creates a $1 billion surplus.

The UC and CSU systems will each receive an extra $250 million under the governor's proposal, while community colleges and k-12 institutions will receive an extra $2.7 billion.

Assemblymember Ed Chau (D – Alhambra) released the following statement
upon announcement of the Governor’s 2013-2014 State Budget proposal:

“Governor Brown and his team have crafted a responsible budget that represents a good starting point as we work in the coming months towards advancing the goal of keeping the state’s fiscal house in order and improving our economic recovery.

As a proud parent and former school board member, I appreciate the Governor’s budget starting with investments in education and healthcare, which are poised to receive more money and are areas that the people I represent care deeply about.

While today’s news has come with a heavy price paid by all Californians who have lived through some tough times in previous budget years, I look forward to finalizing a budget that lightens the mood and reflects the values of the people of California.”

Assemblymember Chau represents the 49th Assembly District, which includes the Cities of Arcadia, Alhambra, El Monte, Montebello, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, South El Monte and Temple City.
