City Council to Discuss City Tax Revenue, Employee Raises and More Friday

The agenda for the San Marino City Council's adjourned regular meeting on Friday morning is packed with particularly significant items. The public is welcome to attend the meeting and weigh in.

The San Marino City Council will meet to discuss and possibly take action on several important issues Friday morning. The meeting will take place at Council Chambers in City Hall at 8 a.m. and is open to the public.

The following is a brief rundown of some of the items to be addressed. Check back on Patch for updates on each of these issues:

City Tax Revenue

Due to a request from Vice Mayor and inquiries at city council meetings, the City has provided a report that is a general overview of each of the taxes the City receives, exemptions and the taxes paid by constituents on a per capita basis.

City Employee Raises

According to a staff report by San Marino Finance Director Lisa Bailey:

In a resolution approved by the City Council at the Feb. 8 regular meeting, staff made a clerical error and neglected to include the small increases in salary ranges that were necessary to some positions to make the current employees whole after they begin paying their employer portion of PERS.

Supervisory/Confidential employees promoted to their position from within City
employment shall receive a salary at the step within the appropriate range, which shall provide at least a five percent (5%) salary increase. Supervisory/Confidential employees appointed from outside City employment shall receive a salary at the step approved by the City Manager.

Sister City in Taiwan

has requested that the San Marino City Council adopt Danshui, Taiwan as a sister city, with minimal fiscal impact to the City of San Marino.

In spring 2011 for a cultural trip at their own expense and the Chinese Club hopes to make another trip in April 2012 to meet with their representatives.

City Hall Renovations

The were put on the back burner pending the , but the plans are back on since the City requested proposals from five architecture firms in January.

Cost of the design/construction administration will range from $26,500 to $106,747 and cost for the construction project ranges from $740,000 to $820,000.

The City received proposals from four of the firms and is recommending that the City Council consider the renovation project Friday and assign a City Council liaison to help with interviewing and selecting an architect.
