City to Hold Lacy Park Lights Community Meetings

The City Council will solicit input from the community for the Lacy Park lights agreement with the San Marino Tennis Foundation.

Last Friday’s open City Council study session meeting involved the Stoneman property and Lacy Park lights, among other items.

City staff—not City Council—will facilitate a community meeting later this month in order to get input for a concession agreement between the city and the San Marino Tennis Foundation that will eventually be presented to the City Council for approval.

Residents can voice concerns about the conditions under which the new lights will be used. The meeting will be held at The Boy Scout House (1196 St Albans Rd.) on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.

Citizens on both sides of the issue crowded the and Jan. 12 council meetings to voice opinions—pro and con—regarding the addition of lights.

The City Council met in closed session during Friday's meeting to further discuss the Stoneman property, available for lease from the , but had nothing to report when the session ended.

The SMUSD rejected the two bids they received last month to lease the property—one bid was $6.3 million from the City of San Marino and the other $4 million from the Almansor Center, a learning center for children up to adults, according to Ballantyne.

The next City Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber at 2200 Huntington Drive.

Correction: This article originally stated that the city of San Marino bid $3 million. The correct bid amount was $6.3 million.
