Former Local Assembly Candidate Tran Pleads Guilty to $10K Bribes, Actually Received $38K

In Los Angeles federal court Tuesday, pleaded guilty to accepting $10,000 in bribes from a real estate developer fro 2005 to 2007, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune

Tran was expected to plead guilty, as the Tribune previously reported, however Tuesday it was revealed that Tran actually received $38,000 in bribes. He has agreed to repay the full amount as restitution, said the Tribune.

Tran agreed to a deal in which he would plead guilty in exchange for not facing prosecution on obstruction of justice and extortion charges, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced in February.

Up until was running for a State Assembly seat to represent the 49th District, which includes San Marino and Arcadia, among other cities.

Officials in San Marino and Arcadia whom Tran had claimed endorsed him strongly denied their endorsements when the scandal broke.

The developer who participated in the bribery has not previously been named, but County Assessor's office records and a claim filed with the City identify the developer as Arcadia resident Tammy Gong, who lists her company as L & G Rosemead Garden LLC.

Tran’s sentencing is Aug. 6.
