Submit Comment About Proposed Huntington Renovations by Wednesday

Local residents can submit comment--positive or negative--to the city about the Huntington's significant proposed renovations by 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The deadline to submit public comment to the city for consideration in the draft Environmental Impact Report about significant proposed renovations for the is 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Huntington Education and Visitor Center Project, which could take up to two years, includes:

New buildings:

  • An auditorium
  • Four classrooms
  • Below-grade collections and storage area with a connecting tunnel to the basement of the Munger Research Center

Replacing the following existing facilities with new ones:

  • Overseers’ Room
  • Garden Court
  • Multi-purpose room
  • Store and ticketing kiosk
  • Coffee shop (currently a coffee cart)
  • Café portion of the tea room building
  • Restrooms
  • Loading dock

An initial study by PCR Services Corporation, an independent contractor hired by the city to evaluate the project, determined that the environmental factors potentially affected by the project are:

  • aesthetics
  • greenhouse gas emissions
  • land use/planning
  • transportation/traffic
  • cultural resources
  • air quality
  • noise
  • mandatory findings of significance (includes potential for environmental effects that cause substantial adverse effects on humans, directly or indirectly)
