Searching for a Venus Transit play-by-play? Look no further.
The widely anticipated transit of Venus past the sun--an event that won't happen again for more than 100 years--is viewable on a NASA webcast that began after 3 p.m. PST as the planet began it's journey. Three announcers can be heard talking about the historic celestial event as it unfolds live.
In the webcast, which shows footage from a telescope set up in Hawaii, Venus can be seen as a small black dot passing over the sun. The full transit will last about 7 hours.
If you have a hankering for more planet transits, one of the NASA commentators said that Mercury will pass between the sun and Earth in four years.
"The next Mercury transit is not far away--it's in 2016, so we can all start preparing right now," he said.
