Parents Invited to Discussion On Talking to Kids About Fears, Violence

The conversation hour will take place at 10 a.m. on Dec. 19 at Valentine Elementary School in San Marino.

In light of the recent school shooting tragedy in Newtown, Conn. that claimed the lives of 20 young children and six adults, the Partnership for Awareness (PfA) board is inviting local parents to a community discussion on how to talk to children about fears and violence.

The event will be held in the conference room (Little Theater) at Valentine Elementary School, 1650 Huntington Dr. in San Marino, starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Dr. Mona Delahooke, developmental specialist, will moderate a conversation hour for parents wanting to know more about these topics. For more information, email president@partnershipforawareness.org.

Partnership for Awareness originated with a group of concerned parents who gathered to discuss concerns regarding drug and alcohol abuse within the youth community. Today the organization is focused on a mission:

  • To increase awareness of critical issues challenging the health and well-being of San Marino youth;
  • To identify and address such issues in cooperative partnership with parents, students, educators and community groups;
  • To provide a forum to educate the San Marino community (both adults and children) with knowledge and skills to facilitate the successful navigation of these important issues.
