Walk the Red Carpet at PTA Founder's Day

The 82nd Annual Founder's Day event on Tuesday will honor school volunteers and include introduction of all the new PTA boards in Hollywood style.

Two days after the Academy Awards, San Marino PTAs will hold their own awards as the 82nd Annual Founder's Day event takes place at Carver Elementary's Scrim Auditorium.

PTA Council and all four district PTAs will come together to introduce their new boards and celebrate volunteerism by announcing their PTA Honorary Service Award recipients.

The recipients are kept a surprise until they are announced at the event. Awards will be presented in three featured categories: The Honorary Service Award, The Continuing Service Award and the Very Special Service Award.

"All of these awards recognize outstanding service to children in our community," said PTA Council Historian Leslie Basalari, who is coordinating the event with PTA Council 2nd Vice President Sally Fadley. "The event celebrates the dedication, hard work and generous spirit of our community’s volunteers."

Lights, Camera, Action!

This year's theme is "Hollywood Awards Night."

Basalari said that in keeping with the theme, San Marino High School media teacher Dave Basulto and the SMHS Media Dept. are going to have several cameras filming the event and the event will be broadcast on Channel 19. There will be someone with a camera on the "red carpet" asking attendees questions like, "What are you wearing?" and they hope to have some paparazzi there as well (high school students snapping away at attendees).

Organizers are asking everyone to show up by 6:45 p.m. to check in and walk down the red carpet. The program begins promptly at 7 p.m.

Administrators dressed to impress will act as celebrity presenters and award presentations will compare each recipient (or “star” volunteer) to a Hollywood star.

Wolfgang Puck catering is even providing dessert.
