One of the two semifinal games in college football's upcoming four-team playoff will be played at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2015, college football commissioners announced Tuesday.
The other semifinal in the first year of the system will be played in New Orleans on Jan. 1, 2015 and serve as the Sugar Bowl. The championship game will be played on Jan. 12, 2015 at a site to be determined.
The Orange Bowl and a yet-to-be-named site will host the semifinals during the second year of the playoff. The hosts of the semifinal games in the third year have not been announced.
The Rose Bowl and the other participating bowls will play host to semifinals once every three years.
The Rose Bowl will be the site of the final National Championship Game under the Bowl Championship Series on Jan. 6, 2014, five days after the 100th Rose Bowl game on New Year's Day, 2014.
