San Marino Man Helped Create Ferris Bueller Super Bowl Commercial

People have been abuzz online, on television and elsewhere about the Honda commercial featuring Matthew Broderick reprising his role as Ferris Bueller from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, set to air during the latter half of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday.

And thanks to the help of San Marino native David Sullivan, the assignment to create a Honda CR-V ad “perfect for getting out and seizing the day,” included the famous school-ditching charmer, Sullivan told the San Marino Tribune in its Feb. 2 print edition.

Sullivan, 32, is a copywriter at Rubin, Postaer and Associates advertising agency, which also created an Acura commercial airing during Sunday’s big game.

In the ad (seen in this article) Broderick calls in “sick” to his boss and proceeds to have an adventurous day out in his Honda CR-V, visiting the Santa Monica Pier and Chinatown among other Los Angeles spots. See how many you recognize.

“It was pretty surreal to work with Matthew and watch him step back into the character he made famous,” Sullivan told the Tribune. “I’m a huge fan of John Hughes and we wanted to pay tribute to a movie that so many people love, including myself.”
