78 mph Wind Gusts in San Gabriel Mountains

Heavy winds blew through Southern California yesterday, with the highest wind gusts recorded in the San Gabriel mountains.

Wind gusts of 78 mph were recorded at Whitaker Peak in the San Gabriel mountains Tuesday night.

A wind advisory was issued yesterday for the foothills and mountains, but it was switched to a after 5 p.m. for the San Gabriel mountains. The local area had the highest-recorded gusts in the Southland last night.

In Sandberg in the Antelope Valley, 49 mph gusts were recorded. In Newhall Pass, 37 mph gusts were recorded.

Winds are still blowing in the Southland, and could top out at 25-35 mph in mountain areas. But, they are expected to be heaviest in the Santa Ynez Range and across I-5 and The Grapevine, where they could reach 50 mph tonight.  

Temps are also on the rise, with highs at or near 90 degrees expected for Wednesday and Thursday. The UV Index is also expected to be 10 Wednesday, meaning the sun's rays will be extremely strong. Wearing sunscreen or protective clothing is advised.
