If you’re thinking of moving to San Marino – or you’re new in town – you’ve got great timing. As the city marks 100 years since its 1913 incorporation, there are plenty of opportunities for you to learn more about its history. A number of historical events and exhibitions are going on throughout the year. If you’d like to read an overview of San Marino to learn more about the city, see our “San Marino” page on Classic Pasadena Homes.

Moving to San Marino

Before moving to San Marino, you may want to learn more about the city – its real estate, its origins, its resources.  Classic Pasadena Homes’ relocation services can offer additional information about a move to San Gabriel Valley’s communities – or even a specialized tour of the area — and The Inside Scoop, a personalized relocation service, can provide information tailored to your exact interests, from the best schools, shopping or golf courses to some of the great assets of the community not as widely known.

The town’s real estate ranges from multimillion-dollar Victorian mansions to one-of-a-kind contemporaries. In this affluent community, the median household income has been $154,963 from 2006 to 2010. Architectural styles include Spanish colonial, Monterey and Mediterranean influences.

San Marino’s history

San Marino is dedicated to preserving its history, as its many centennial events demonstrate. Before becoming a city, portions of San Marino were included in a Mexican Land Grant in 1830. It was eventually named after the ancient Republic of San Marino in Italy.

Through May 13, you can learn even more about San Marino by viewing the exhibit “Cultivating California: Founding Families of the San Marino Ranch” at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. For more information, e-mail Jennifer Goldman atjgoldman@huntington.org.

Additionally, a book — San Marino: A Centennial History – traces the history of the first century of the city through words and images, and is available for sale.

If you’re moving to San Marino, or have recently located, I recommend you visit the city’s centennial website to stay aware of all the historical events open to the public this year.
