Former SMSF, Rotary President Appointed to Pasadena Community Foundation

Lois Matthews, who once served as president of the San Marino Schools Foundation and Rotary Club of San Marino, was recently appointed to the Pasadena Community Foundation board with two others.

The Pasadena Community Foundation announced the appointment of three new board members Thursday, including one with deep San Marino roots in leadership and being celebrated by the community.

"The mission of the Pasadena Community Foundation is to serve as a leader, catalyst and resource for philanthropy and to improve the lives of people in the greater Pasadena area, now and for future generations," according to the Foundation.

This month, the Pasadena Community Foundation proudly announces the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors. The three, Lois Matthews, Peter McAniff and Dr. Michelle Tyson, all bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the Pasadena community. 

"As we approach our 60th anniversary, we feel that we have a strong Board of Directors and are well poised to increase our impact and service to Pasadena over the next 60 years," said Jennifer DeVoll, the Foundation’s Executive Director. "Our strategic plan calls for building our endowment to a level where we can invest $1 million per year into the community. Our Board members are enthusiastic and ready to take on that commitment."

  • Lois Matthews, a lifetime Trustee with the Collis P. and Howard Huntington Memorial Hospital Trust, served as president of the Trust from 2003 to 2008, a time when the Hospital was undergoing a major renovation. Prior to joining the Board, she organized and directed the financially successful resale ad consignment shop, the Huntington Collection which helps fund the hospital’s Senior Care Network. 
    She is a past president of the and . In 2002, she was honored by the Junior League of Pasadena as Sustainer of the Year. The awarded her its Distinguished Citizen Award for 2003 and the San Marino Tribune named her Citizen of the Year in 2009.
  • Peter McAniff, a native of Pasadena, is an investment analyst with Pasadena-based Poplar Forest Capital.  He received his B.A. with honors from Holy Cross College in 1989 and went on to work in the office of President Reagan.  He later obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management as well as his Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law, both in 1994.  He spent 13 years in corporate finance before taking a sabbatical to co-author with his wife, The Practitioners Guide to Investment Banking, Mergers and Acquisitions, a text book now used by several investment banks and universities such as Harvard, Northwestern and Rutgers.
  • Michelle Tyson, grew up in Pasadena where her father, Dr. Bertrand Tyson established one of the city’s first clinics to provide efficient medical care to under-served populations.  She is a graduate of Westridge School where she is an active member of the Alumni Council.  A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University and the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Tyson holds memberships in the American and the Los Angeles County Medical Associations and the Association of Black Women Physicians.  She served as Chair of the Pasadena Health Department’s SPINN Committee, an initiative to provide teenage vaccinations.  As a member of the board of directors of Primary Provider Medical Corporation, she shares responsibility for the care of over 600,000 patients in the Inland Empire.    

In addition to the 15-member Board of Directors, the Pasadena Community Foundation maintains a close relationship with past Board members who serve as advisors and ambassadors for the ongoing work of the Foundation.
