Hi there, I'd like to nominate Vanessa Koo - to receive special person of the year in San Marino.Read More I've known Vanessa since our youngest kids were in elementary school together, we met shortly after their 1st grade year, when my son joined her cub scout den. She and her co-den leader, Andrea Willard worked tirelessly and provided wonderful programs for our cub scouts (a group of 10 rowdy boys) no small feat. I also had the pleasure of serving on the same PTA with Vanessa Koo at Valentine Elementary, she was the President of the PTA in 2001 and I was the Parent Party Chair. Under her leadership, I learned a lot about volunteering in schools and working with people. What I know about Vanessa is she is a dedicated volunteer. Her job is volunteering for the schools, I know she served on the Council last year and has continued and has always made it her mission to be the connection between the mainstream culture and the Chinese culture, she has translated all communication between the school, San Marino Foundation and the Chinese community. Not only is she dedicated to serving her community, Vanessa is a good friend and wise too. I have learned many a things from her as she shares her cultural upbringing, even though Vanessa is american-ized, she still embodies her Chinese culture and is proud of it. She is due to be applauded for her many years of service to our wonderful community. Gilda Moshir
