The gas tax needs to go up because its intended purpose is to fund transportation of all kinds. WeRead More have so much infrastructure to build and rehabilitate; but the government has been taking in less and less gas tax money each year....WHY? because cars are more efficient today than 5, 10, and 20 years ago. That means less gas is used and then there is less money available for transportation, let alone other government accounts and diversions. So we either need to raise the gas tax to match revenue from 10 years ago, or change to another revenue method...like mileage based consumption tax. The more you drive, the more you pay.
