6 Questions for a San Marino Local: Psychic Kate Chen

While Kate Chen’s local storefront has only been open since February, the Alhambra resident has been catering to clientele in the San Gabriel Valley for the past 21 years.

“I’ve been up and down this area for quite some years,” said Chen. “I just thought ‘Why not open a place in San Marino?’ It’s a great hub that’s close to where I live and there wasn’t anyone here doing it.”

Chen comes from a long line of psychics. Her mother, a practicing psychic in Alhambra, comes from a long line of gifted ancestors.

“I do have the gift, but I’m more of an empath than just a psychic,” said Chen. “A psychic can see what’s going on but I can feel what’s going on with the person, their loved ones, a co-worker and others. More often than not I get confirmation that what I’m feeling about a specific person is accurate.”

Chen specializes in giving advice on romantic situations. She says 99 percent of her clientele is interested in romance.

“It’s usually love and money that people want to know about,” said Chen.

Chen’s space, decorated in bright reds accented with gold, is located near the heart of Huntington Drive. The psychic finds strong influences in the Asian community.

“I feel very connected to the Asian community,” said Chen. “I like their superstitions and beliefs. I like the way they take care of their families and their homes. I just feel very connected to it.”

I don’t go for a stroll or for a run but I would say Huntington Drive.

What is the best part about your job?

Helping people get unstuck and move forward with their lives. Often times, I get people that come in for sessions that are stuck in a bad relationship, a dead-end job or just a part of life where they just can’t seem to get to the next step. It’s usually an energy that they’re promoting that’s not allowing them to move forward. I usually get to the core of the issue and once that’s resolved they can move forward and get to a whole new point of their life.
